Diagnostic features
Rampant deciduous climber to 30m.
Leaves 1-pinnate; leaflets rounded to cordate at base.
Flowers in dense clusters; sepals c.1cm, creamish- or greenish-white.
Style becoming long and feathery in fruit.

Chromosome number: 2n=16.

Habitat
Native; hedgerows, scrub and woodland on base-rich soils.

Distribution
Locally abundant in England and Wales North to Southwest Yorks, also naturalized in scattered localities North to Central Scotland, Man and over most of Ireland and Channel Islands.
