Diagnostic features
Strongly rhizomatous.
Stems to 1.5m, erect, simple or little-branched.
Leaves 2-3-pinnate; inflorescence compound.
Flowers in dense clusters, bright yellow, with erect to patent stamens with narrow yellowish filaments.

Chromosome number: 2n=84.

Habitat
Native; fens, streamsides and wet meadows.

Distribution
Scattered and declining throughout Britain North to South Scotland, mostly in East England, very scattered in Ireland.
