Diagnostic features
Erect unbranched or little-branched annual to 2.5m.
Leaves palmately divided to base or almost so into 3-9 lanceolate lobes.

Chromosome number: (2n=20).

Habitat
Introduced-casual; formerly grown for fibre and still illicitly on small scale for drug, now again being grown in trials as a fibre crop.

Distribution
Imported in mixed birdseed and frequent on tips, and in parks and farms where birds are fed; much of British Isles, especially urban areas in South; South & West Asia.
