Diagnostic features
Spreading shrub or small tree to 10m.
Leaves 10-20cm, cordate at base, with 3-5 obtuse to rounded lobes, sparsely and roughly hairy.
Fruiting head the characteristic 'fig', green to blackish at maturity.

Chromosome number: (2n=26).

Habitat
Introduced-naturalized; waste ground and walls, especially by rivers.

Distribution
Naturalized in South Britain, South Ireland and Channel Islands, and rarely as far North as Central Scotland, all or mostly from imported fruit; Southwest Asia.
