Stinking Tutsan

Scientific name: Hypericum hircinum L.

Diagnostic features
Erect ± deciduous glabrous shrub with much-branched 4-ridged stems to 1.5m, with strong unpleasant smell when bruised.
Flowers 2.5-4cm across.
Stamens slightly longer than petals.

Chromosome number: (2n=40).

Habitat
Introduced-naturalized; grown in gardens and rarely naturalized in shady places.

Distribution
Scattered throughout much of British Islands, especially Southwest; Mediterranean.

Note
Our plant is Hypericum hircinum L. subspecies majus (Aiton) N. Robson.
