Perforate St John's-wort

Scientific name: Hypericum perforatum L.

Diagnostic features
Erect glabrous rhizomatous perennial with 2-ridged stems to 80cm.
Leaves with abundant translucent glands.
Flowers 15-25mm across.
Sepals entire, acute at apex.
Petals bright yellow.
Black glands few on sepals and petals, sessile.

Chromosome number: 2n=32.

Habitat
Native; dryish grassland, banks and open woodland.

Distribution
Common throughout most of British Isles and the commonest Hypericum in England, but rare in North Scotland.

Note
Very variable, especially in leaf-shape.
