Diagnostic features
Erect rhizomatous glabrous perennial.
Stems to 60cm, square in section, wingless.
Leaves with absent or very few translucent glands.
Flowers 15-25mm across.
Petals bright yellow.
Black glands on leaves, petals and sometimes sepals, sessile.

Habitat
Native; grassy, usually moist places.

Key to the subspecies:
a. Inflorescence-branches arising at c.30°; black glands on petals mainly as superficial dots; sepals (1.7)2-3mm wide, entire.

b. Inflorescence-branches arising at c.50°; black glands on petals mainly as superficial lines; sepals 1.2-2mm wide, denticulate.
