Musk-mallow
Scientific name: Malva moschata L.
Diagnostic features Perennial with erect stems to 80cm. Upper leaves usually very deeply divided, but sometimes not so. Epicalyx-segments more than 3x as long as wide. Calyx, epicalyx and pedicels with only simple hairs. Petals more than 16mm, bright pink or white. Nutlets smooth, with long hairs, rounded between lateral and dorsal surfaces.
Chromosome number: 2n=42.
Habitat Native; grassy banks and fields, especially on rich soils.
Distribution Throughout most of British Isles but rare in North & West Scotland and parts of Ireland, probably not native in most of Ireland and North Britain.
