Scientific name: Malva parviflora L.
Diagnostic features Annual with erect to decumbent stems to 50cm. Leaves with shallow rounded lobes. Calyx glabrous or with marginal hairs less than 0.5mm. Pedicels all less than 1cm at fruiting. Petals up to 5mm, pale mauve. Nutlets strongly reticulate, glabrous or pubescent, the angle between dorsal and lateral surfaces raised to form narrow wavy wing.
Chromosome number: (2n=42).
Habitat Introduced-naturalized; waste places, casual from several sources, especially wool, sometimes persisting.
Distribution Very scattered over Britain; South Europe.
