Round-leaved Sundew

Scientific name: Drosera rotundifolia L.

Diagnostic features
Inflorescences to 10(25)cm, the peduncles straight and arising centrally as in Drosera anglica.
Leaves (incl. petiole) up to 5cm, the blades ± orbicular, up to 10 x 10mm.

Chromosome number: 2n=20.

Habitat
Native; wet acid peaty places with little shade.

Distribution
In suitable places over most of British Isles, often common in North & West but absent from much of Central, East & South England.

Hybrids
- Drosera x obovata Mert. & W.D.J. Koch (= Drosera rotundifolia x Drosera anglica) is similar to Drosera intermedia in leaf characters but has a straight, centrally arising inflorescence and is sterile; it is rare but has scattered records over much of West Britain and Ireland, especially Northwest Scotland.
- Drosera x belezeana E.G. Camus (= Drosera rotundifolia x Drosera intermedia) has a leaf-shape closer to that of Drosera rotundifolia but curved, lateral inflorescences and is sterile; it has been recorded in South Hants, West Norfolk and Cards.
