Great Sundew
Scientific name: Drosera anglica Huds.
Diagnostic features Inflorescences to 18(30)cm with peduncles straight, arising from near centre of leaf-rosette. Leaves (incl. petiole) up to 13cm, the blades narrowly obovate to linear-oblong, up to 30 x 10mm.
Chromosome number: 2n=40.
Habitat Native.
Distribution Similar places (or wetter) and distribution to Drosera rotundifolia, but much more local and absent from Channel Islands and most of England, Wales and East Scotland.

Hybrids - Drosera x obovata Mert. & W.D.J. Koch (= Drosera rotundifolia x Drosera anglica) is similar to Drosera intermedia in leaf characters but has a straight, centrally arising inflorescence and is sterile; it is rare but has scattered records over much of West Britain and Ireland, especially Northwest Scotland. |
