Diagnostic features
Shrub or small tree to 3m.
Leaves 1.5-3mm, narrowly triangular-ovate, acute to acuminate, green to glaucous.
Racemes 2-5cm x 4-5mm.
Petals 1.5-2mm.

Chromosome number: (2n=24).

Habitat
Introduced-naturalized; planted as windbreak and stabilizer in sandy places by sea, persistent and appearing naturalized but very rarely if ever self-sown.

Distribution
Coasts of Channel Islands and Britain North to North Wales and Suffolk, rarely elsewhere in Britain and Ireland; Southwest Europe.
