Scientific name: Salix udensis Trautv. & C.A. Mey.
Diagnostic features Shrub or small tree (to 30m in Asia). Twigs glabrous, shiny, reddish- to yellowish-brown. Leaves 6-15 x 0.8-3cm, sparsely pubescent on lowerside at maturity, crenate-serrate. Stamens free or fused for less than1/2 way.
Chromosome number: (2n=38).
Habitat Introduced-survivor; garden throwout often thriving where dumped or planted in wetground.
Distribution Several sites Northwest England to Central Scotland; East Asia.

Note Only the distinctive contorted and fasciated male cv. 'Sekka' is grown and naturalized here. |
