Scientific name: Salix reticulata L.

Diagnostic features
Dwarf shrub less than20cm.
Twigs sparsely pubescent at first, soon glabrous, dark reddish-brown.
Leaves 1.2-4(5) x 1-2.5(3.5)cm, densely pubescent at first, becoming glabrous at least on upperside, rounded at apex, entire.
Bracts purplish-brown, suborbicular.
Nectaries usually in form of lobed cup.
Ovary densely pubescent.

Chromosome number: 2n=38.

Habitat
Native; wet rock-ledges and mountain-slopes.

Distribution
Very local in Central & North mainland Scotland.

This species is keyed out on Page 1593 in the Text Key.

Hybrid
- Salix x ganderi Huter ex Zahn (= Salix arbuscula x Salix reticulata) was once found in 1938 with the parents in Mid Perth.
- Salix lapponum x Salix reticulata was formerly thought to be the parentage of Salix aurita x Salix lapponum x Salix herbacea.
