Diagnostic features
Annual.
Stems well branched, to 60cm, erect to ascending.
Lower leaves variously lobed but some deeply so.
Fruits 2-6cm, patent to ± erect.

Chromosome number: (2n=14, 28, 42, 56).

Habitat
Introduced-naturalized; walls, roadsides and waste places.

Distribution
More or less naturalized in a few places in Britain and Ireland, a more frequent casual, especially wool-alien; Europe.
