Diagnostic features
Erect shrub to 1(-2.5)m.
Young stems terete, minutely pubescent.
Leaves 10-80mm, elliptic, entire to serrate, deciduous.
Flowers in terminal or lateral stalked racemes, white or pink-tinged.
Fruit bluish-black with whitish bloom, 5-12mm across, ± globose.

Chromosome number: (2n=48).

Habitat
Introduced-naturalized; on heathland from bird-sown seeds.

Distribution
South Hants and Dorset; East North America.
