Diagnostic features
Differs from Ribes rubrum in hypanthium cup-shaped.
Anther-lobes contiguous.
Usually more pubescent but other differences are not constant.

Chromosome number: (2n=16).

Habitat
Native; woods on limestone, mostly in uplands.

Distribution
Very local from Lancs and Yorks to Caithness, rarely naturalized further South.
