Diagnostic features Stems ± erect, to 1.5m. Leaves 5-12cm, elliptic to narrowly so, coarsely serrate, glabrous to slightly pubescent on veins. Panicle ± flat-topped. Petals pink.
Chromosome number: (2n=14, 18, 34).
Habitat Introduced-naturalized; grown in gardens, naturalized in hedges, etc..
Distribution Occasional in Britain, Man and Channel Islands; Japan.

Note Spiraea japonica 'Anthony Waterer' is the commonest clone in gardens and might be so in the wild too. |
