Diagnostic features
Stems to 20cm, erect, annual, clothed only with hairs.
Leaves simple, ± orbicular, palmately 5-7-lobed.
Flowers dioecious, solitary, terminal, white, 20-30mm across.
Fruit orange when ripe, of 4-20 large drupes.

Chromosome number: 2n=56.

Habitat
Native; peaty moors and bogs on mountains.

Distribution
Britain North from North Wales and Derbys, Tyrone.
