Diagnostic features
Stems to 2m, ± erect, with weak spines mostly below, otherwise ± glabrous.
Leaves ternate, with ovate ± glabrous leaflets.
Flowers usually solitary on lateral branches, pink, 2-3cm across.
Fruit orange.

Chromosome number: (2n=14).

Habitat
Introduced-naturalized; grown for ornament and naturalized in woods and hedgerows.

Distribution
Scattered throughout Britain, Man and Ireland; West North America.
