Diagnostic features
Stems to 5m, erect and arching, with few strong prickles, densely covered in white bloom.
Leaves pinnate, with 7-11 narrowly elliptic-ovate leaflets grey-pubescent on lowerside.
Flowers in panicles, purplish, 1-1.8cm across.
Fruit black.

Habitat
Introduced-naturalized.

Distribution
Grown in gardens for ornamental stems, naturalized rarely in England and Scotland; China.
