Scientific name: Potentilla palustris (L.) Scop.

Diagnostic features
Herbaceous perennial with long woody rhizome and ascending stems to 50cm.
Leaves pinnate, with (3)5-7 leaflets.
Flowers 1-few in terminal cymes.
Petals purple, much shorter than sepals.
Achenes glabrous.

Chromosome number: 2n=35, 40, 64.

Habitat
Native; fens, marshes and bogs.

Distribution
Common over most of British Isles but very local in South & Central Britain and Channel Islands.
