Hautbois Strawberry

Scientific name: Fragaria moschata (Duchesne) Weston

Diagnostic features
Differs from Fragria vesca in larger size (stems to 40cm, longer than leaves).
Terminal leaflet usually subacute to obtuse at base, dull on upperside when fresh.
Uppermost pedicel in each cyme with many patent hairs at fruiting.
Flowers 15-30mm across, functionally dioecious.

Chromosome number: (2n=42).

Habitat
Introduced-naturalized; formerly cultivated, naturalized in scrub and hedgerows.

Distribution
Scattered throughout Britain but now rare and over-recorded for large Fragaria vesca or small Fragaria ananassa; Central Europe.
