Scientific name: Fragaria ananassa (Duchesne) Duchesne
Diagnostic features Differs from Fragaria vesca in larger size of parts; many stolons. Terminal leaflet usually obtuse to rounded at base, glabrous or nearly so on upperside. Flowers 20-35mm across. Most fruiting heads more than15mm wide, usually with sepals appressed. Achenes sunk into surface of ripe receptacle.
Chromosomenumber: (2n=56).
Habitat Introduced-naturalized; much cultivated, frequently naturalized in waste places and field-borders.
Distribution Scattered throughout British Isles; garden origin.
