Scientific name: Acaena novae-zelandiae Kirk

Diagnostic features
Woody stems procumbent, mat-forming.
Herbaceous stems ascending, to 15cm.
Leaflets 9-13(15), glossy green on upperside, the apical pair 5-20mm, 1.8-2.5x as long as wide, each with 5-12(15) teeth.
Carpels and stigma 1.
Hypanthium with up to 4 spines mostly 6-10mm, often 1 or 2 much shorter.

Chromosome number: (2n=42).

Habitat
Introduced-naturalized; grown in gardens and introduced with shoddy, now well naturalized on barish ground.

Distribution
South & East Britain North to Southeast Scotland, very scattered in Ireland; New Zealand and Australia.
