Diagnostic features
Deciduous tree to 12m.
Leaves 6-12cm, ovate to obovate or narrowly so, cuneate to rounded at base.
Flowers up to 6(10) in umbels or very short corymbose racemes on pedicels up to 15mm.
Petals white.
Fruit c.6mm, subglobose, red.

Chromosome number: (2n=16, 32).

Habitat
Introduced-naturalized.

Distribution
In and by woodland (self-sown trees to 9m) in Surrey; North America.
