Diagnostic features
Differs from Prunus padus in leaves glabrous or with rows of brown hairs along lowerside midrib.
Shorter stiffer racemes with closer-packed flowers.
Pedicels 3-7mm in flower (-10mm in fruit).
Petals 3-4.5mm.
Fruit 8-10mm, purplish-black.

Chromosome number: (2n=32).

Habitat
Introduced-naturalized; woods and commons.

Distribution
South England and Wales; East North America.
