Scientific name: Sorbus domestica L.
Diagnostic features Tree to 23m. Trunk deeply and closely fissured. Leaves pinnate, with 6-8 pairs of leaflets. Styles 5(-6). Fruit 20-25mm across, obovoid or pear-shaped, greenish-brown, sometimes red-tinged, with numerous large lenticels, with groups of gritty stone-cells.
Chromosome number: (2n=34).
Habitat Probably native.
Distribution In 3 sites on limestone sea-cliffs in Glam, first found 1983, as stunted (to 3(5)m) rarely fruiting plants; planted and sometimes self-sown in a few places in South England, odd specimens possibly native in West Gloucs and formerly Worcs.
