Open-fruited Cotoneaster
Scientific name: Cotoneaster bacillaris Wall. ex Lindl.
Diagnostic features Deciduous shrub or tree to 5m, with widely arching branches. Leaves 3-10cm, flat, very sparsely pubescent on lowerside. Inflorescences 5-20-flowered. Anthers mauve. Fruits purplish-black, 6-10mm, broadly obovoid, with dense white bloom, with 2 stones showing at apex.
Habitat Introduced-naturalized.
Distribution Southeast England; Himalayas.
