Diagnostic features
Tree to 6m.
Spines very sparse.
Leaves obovate to oblong-obovate, 3-7-lobed more than3/4 (often nearly whole) way to midrib, the lobes narrow with few apical teeth.
Fruits globose to pear-shaped, 15-20mm, brick-red to orange.

Chromosome number: (2n=68).

Habitat
Introduced-naturalized.

Distribution
Frequently grown, naturalized in hedges and on banks in South England North to Derbys; Southeast Europe and Southwest Asia.
