Diagnostic features
Scrambling or climbing perennial to 2m.
Leaflets 4-12 pairs.
Tendrils branched.
Flowers 4-15(20), 12-20mm, white with purple veins.
Fruits 25-30mm, 4-5-seeded.

Chromosome number: 2n=14.

Habitat
Native; open woods and wood-borders, scree, scrub, maritime cliffs and shingle.

Distribution
Scattered throughout much of Britain and Ireland but local.
