Diagnostic features
Procumbent to weakly climbing annual to 20cm.
Leaflets 2-4 pairs.
Tendrils simple or scarcely developed.
Flowers solitary, (5)6-9mm, dull purple.
Fruits 15-30mm, 6-12-seeded.

Chromosome number: 2n=10, 12.

Habitat
Native; maritime sand and inland sandy heaths.

Distribution
Scattered over most of British Isles except West & South Ireland and Northwest Scotland.

Note
Possibly over-recorded for Vicia sativa subsp. nigra.
