Climbing perennial to 1.2m.
Stems winged.
Leaflets 2-3(5) pairs, narrowly elliptic-oblong.
Tendrils branched.
Flowers 2-6(8), 12-20mm, purplish-blue.

Chromosome number: 2n=42.

Habitat
Native; fens and tall damp grassland.

Distribution
Very locally scattered in England, Wales, Southwest Scotland and Ireland, mainly East Anglia, decreasing.
