Diagnostic features
Differs from Lathyrus sylvestris in stems to 3m.
Leaflets narrowly to broadly elliptic (less than 4x as long as wide).
Stipules more than 1/2 as wide as stem (often as wide).
Flowers 3-12, 15-30mm, brighter coloured.
Lowest calyx-tooth as long as or longer than tube.
Ovules 16-23 per ovary.

Chromosome number: 2n=14.

Habitat
Introduced-naturalized; very persistent garden escape in hedges, roadsides and railway banks, and rough ground.

Distribution
Scattered throughout Britain North to Central Scotland; Europe.
