Norfolk Everlasting-pea

Scientific name: Lathyrus heterophyllus L.

Diagnostic features
Differs from Lathyrus sylvestris in flowers 12-22mm, brighter coloured.
Lowest calyx-tooth as long as or longer than tube.
Stipules more than 1/2 as wide as stem (often as wide).
Differs from Lathyrus latifolius in narrower leaflets and fewer ovules per ovary.
Chromosome number: (2n=14).

Habitat
Introduced-naturalized.

Distribution
Naturalized since 1949 in damp hollows of sand-dunes in West Norfolk, since 1980s in North Hants; Europe.

This species is keyed out on Page 2883 in the Text Key.

Note
On the Continent plants mostly have upper leaves with 2-3 pairs of leaflets, but our plants (Lathyrus heterophyllus var. unijugus W.D.J. Koch) have only 1 pair.
