Spotted Medick

Scientific name: Medicago arabica (L.) Huds.

Diagnostic features
Procumbent to scrambling annual to 60cm, ± glabrous when mature.
Stipules dentate usually less than 1/2 way to midrib.
Flowers 1-5, 4-6mm, yellow.
Fruits of 3-5(6) coils, glabrous, usually with rather slender spines deeply grooved more than 1/2 way.

Chromosome number: 2n=16.

Habitat
Native; grassy and barish places, especially near sea.

Distribution
Channel Islands, South& Central Britain; also common casual throughout British Isles in waste places, often in wool.
