Diagnostic features
Differs from Lupinus regalis(x) in stems unbranched, with 1 inflorescence.
Leaflets obtuse to acute.
Flowers blue.
Lower lip of calyx 3-6mm.

Chromosome number: (2n=48).

Habitat
Introduced-naturalized; formerly grown in gardens, naturalized by rivers and railways, sometimes in waste places.

Distribution
Scattered in Scotland; West North America.

Hybrids
- See Lupinus regalis(x) Bergmans (= Lupinus arboreus x Lupinus polyphyllus)
- Lupinus x pseudopolyphyllus C.P. Sm. (= Lupinus polyphyllus x Lupinus nootkatensis) occurs with the parents on river-shingle in Moray and Mid Perth; it is intermediate and fertile.
