Diagnostic features
Densely pubescent, tufted perennial.
Stems biennial, with inflorescences arising from tops in 2nd year, to 1.5m.
Leaves of first-year stems oblanceolate, entire, pubescent.
Capsule smooth, pubescent.
Seeds smooth.

Chromosome number: (2n=20).

Habitat
Introduced-naturalized; grown in gardens, naturalized on old garden sites and waste ground.
