Diagnostic features
Tree to 26m.
Leaves simple, with 5-7 acuminate, entire lobes.
Flowers in ± erect, yellowish-green, subcorymbose panicles appearing ± before leaves.
Fruits as in Acer platanoides.

Chromosome number: (2n=26).

Habitat
Introduced-naturalized; frequently planted in parks and by roads.

Distribution
Self-sown and extensively suckering in Southeast England, rarely North to Midwest Yorks; Southwest Asia.
