Diagnostic features
Tree to 35m.
Leaves simple, with usually 5 ± acute coarsely serrate lobes widest at base.
Flowers in ± cylindrical, pendent, yellowish-green panicles appearing with leaves.
Fruits with wings diverging at c.90°.

Chromosome number: (2n=52).

Habitat
Introduced-naturalized.

Distribution
Fully naturalized and 1 of the most abundant trees in wide range of habitats throughout British Isles; Europe.
