Stag's-horn Sumach

Scientific name: Rhus typhina L.

Diagnostic features
Shrub to 5(10)m.
Twigs thick, densely pubescent.
Leaflets (7)11-15(21), oblong-lanceolate, acute to acuminate, serrate, 5-12cm.
Inflorescence stiffly erect, 10-20cm, greenish in flower, then deep red.

Chromosome number: (2n=30).

Habitat
Introduced-naturalized; much plantedon verges and banks by roads and railways, extensively suckering but very rarely or never self-sown.

Distribution
South Britain, scattered North to Cumberland; North America.
