Algerian Ivy
Scientific name: Hedera algeriensis Hibberd
Diagnostic features Stems variously creeping and climbing to c.5m. Leaves mostly 6-15cm wide, usually some 3-lobed, entire, with orange-brown semi-peltate hairs with mostly 8-18 rays held parallel to surface.
Chromosome number: (2n=96).
Habitat Introduced-naturalized; grown in conservatories and on patios and walls, sometimes persisting and spreading.
Distribution Scattered in South & West Britain North to Centralwest Scotland, Man; North Africa.
Note The commonest indoor variegated ivy, usually mis-named Hedera canariensis; usually with distinctive long red petioles.
