Diagnostic features
Stems erect, ± glaucous, to 2.5m.
Fruits often not developing or developing very late in season, 4-5mm.

Chromosome number: (2n=22).

Habitat
Probably introduced-naturalized; open ground and waste places, especially near the coast.

Distribution
Well naturalized in British Isles North to North Ireland, Man and Yorks, scarce and mainly casual further North; Europe.

Nowadays rarely grown on field-scale.
