Shrubby Hare's-ear

Scientific name: Bupleurum fruticosum L.

Diagnostic features
Evergreen shrub to 2.5m, but often much less due to annual frost-damage.
Leaves oblong to narrowly obovate, with 1 main vein, most more than 4 x 1.5cm.
Bracts several but often fallen before fruiting, ovate to obovate, shorter than rays.
Rays 5-many.
Fruits 4.5-6mm, with prominent, slender ridges, smooth.

Chromosome number: (2n=14).

Habitat
Introduced-naturalized.

Distribution
Grown in gardens, naturalized on roadside and railway banks since before 1909; East Suffolk, West Kent, South Devon and Worcs; South Europe.
