Sickle-leaved Hare's-ear

Scientific name: Bupleurum falcatum L.

Diagnostic features
Herbaceous ± erect perennial to 1m.
Leaves oblanceolate to linear-falcate, with 5 main veins, the lower usually more than 5 x 1cm.
Bracts several, linear to lanceolate, shorter than rays.
Rays 5-c.11.
Fruits 2.5-3.5mm, with slender, prominent ridges, smooth.

Chromosome number: (2n=16, 26, 28, 32).

Habitat
Possibly native; damp roadsides, ditches, hedgebanks and field-borders.

Distribution
1 locality in South Essex, discovered 1831, eradicated 1956, then reintroduced from different source, rarely naturalized in Central & North England.
