Small Hare's-ear

Scientific name: Bupleurum baldense Turra

Diagnostic features
Erect annual to 25cm, usually much less than 10cm.
Leaves linear to very narrowly oblanceolate, with 3-5 main veins, the lower mostly more than 2cm by less than 0.3mm.
Bracts c.4, longer than shortest rays, lanceolate.
Rays 1-4, unequal.
Fruits 1.5-2.5mm, scarcely ridged, smooth.

Chromosome number: (2n=16).

Habitat
Native; barish ground on fixed dunes and cliffs by sea.

Distribution
Very local in Channel Islands, South Devon and East Sussex, rare casual elsewhere.

Often very dwarfed and superficially resembling Euphorbia exigua, with which it sometimes grows.
