Small Hare's-ear
Scientific name: Bupleurum baldense Turra
Diagnostic features Erect annual to 25cm, usually much less than 10cm. Leaves linear to very narrowly oblanceolate, with 3-5 main veins, the lower mostly more than 2cm by less than 0.3mm. Bracts c.4, longer than shortest rays, lanceolate. Rays 1-4, unequal. Fruits 1.5-2.5mm, scarcely ridged, smooth.
Chromosome number: (2n=16).
Habitat Native; barish ground on fixed dunes and cliffs by sea.
Distribution Very local in Channel Islands, South Devon and East Sussex, rare casual elsewhere.
