Diagnostic features
Stems erect, to 2.5m, often much less, usually somewhat purplish.
Leaflets ovate, abruptly acute, closely and finely serrate.
Peduncles and rays minutely pubescent.
Petals white to pinkish-white.
Fruits 4-5mm.

Chromosome number: 2n=22.

Habitat
Native; damp grassy places, fens, marshes, by streams, ditches and ponds, in damp open woods.

Distribution
Common throughout British Isles.
