Scientific name: Solanum scabrum Mill.

Diagnostic features
Differs from Solanum nigrum in stems usually scrambling, sparsely pubescent, to 1m, with strongly dentated to weakly spinous angles.
Fruit shiny-black, 12-17mm across.

Chromosome number: (2n=48).

Habitat
Introduced-naturalized; rare casual from fruit or cultivated plants, on tips, sewerage farms and fields spread with sludge.

Distribution
South England, naturalized in Herts; ?Africa.

Note
The brownish-yellow rather than bright yellow anthers are diagnostic.
