Diagnostic features
Glabrous (or ± so) shrub to 1(2)m.
Leaves entire and lanceolate, and deeply lobed and ovate (the latter commoner) on same plant.
Flowers 3-12.
Corolla purple.
Fruits yellow to orange, ellipsoid, 14-25mm.

Chromosome number: (2n=48, 92).

Habitat
Introduced-naturalized; rough ground, tips and maritime sand, mostly casual but sometimes naturalized.

Distribution
West Cornwall, South Somerset and Channel Islands; Australia.
