Diagnostic features
Erect perennial to 80(100)cm, with branched hairs.
Rather sparse strong spines present on stems and leaves.
Leaves ovate, shallowly lobed.
Flowers 3-8.
Corolla white to purple.
Fruit yellow, globose, 10-15mm.

Chromosome number: (2n=24).

Habitat
Introduced-casual; tips and waste places, or frequent soyabean-alien.

Distribution
South England; North America.
